Confab Allowance Rejection: Bakare, Falana, Agbakogba Playng To The Gallery – Delegate

A delegate to the ongoing National Conference, Moshood Salvador, has disclosed that he hired the services of professors as researchers to facilitate his work at the conference.

He was speaking in response to the widely held belief that delegates to the conference were being paid jumbo allowances.
The former member of the House of Representatives also accused Ogun State delegate and Serving Overseer of the Latter Rain Assembly, Lagos, Pastor Tunde Bakare; a former President of the Nigeria Bar Association, Olisa Agbakoba, and human rights lawyer, Femi Falana – of playing to the gallery over their decision not to collect the confab allowance.
The delegate explained that since the conference began, he had incurred expenses over and above the bi-weekly allowance of N1.46m for employing media aides and researchers including professors to enable him to perform optimally at the confab.
He spoke on Wednesday in Lagos, during the public presentation of his memoir titled, “Hon. Moshood Salvador’s Memoir: Beyond the Dream”.
The former lawmaker, who served between 1999 and 2003, said he decided to employ the services of the unnamed university dons with a view to “getting the best formula for Nigeria”.
He said, “It is only when we don’t love this nation that we will be talking about money. On the issue of jumbo pay, I don’t know anything about it.
“Those saying they are going to donate that allowance to charity are only playing to the gallery. I have spent more than N3m on this cause (National Conference). I’m not waiting for government money.
“I have rented an apartment of about N800, 000 a month. I have employed the services of a media team, researchers and they are there in my private office in Wuse, Abuja, conducting research and surfing the web to get information.
“In fact, I don’t want to mention professors that we are working together with to make sure we get the best formula for this nation. This money is from my pocket, not from anywhere. At my level, that’s not jumbo pay. I don’t even think about it (the pay)”.

After 19 Years of Marriage, Man Discovers That His Wife Used to Be A Man

A Belgian man is seeking to have his marriage annulled after discovering that his Indonesian wife of 19 years had been born a man. The man, only named as Jan, married Monica, his family’s former nanny in a previous marriage, in 1993 despite legal difficulties raised by the Belgian immigration authorities. But it was only in recent weeks that he discovered that his wife had originally been a man and had undergone a s*x change.
“I feel I’ve been assaulted,” he said. “I brought her to Belgium. That was not easy. The Belgian courts had serious doubts about the authenticity of her birth and her identity papers, but eventually they accepted it anyway.
“I thought she was an attractive woman, all woman. She had no male traits.” Jan, 64, said that he and his wife had decided not to have children because he had two by his previous marriage and she fooled him by pretending to menstruate, using sanitary towels, “to conceal the truth”. “Even during s*x, I never noticed anything,” he said.
For many years the couple lived a normal family life and Monica, 48, was like a “big sister” to his children until their marriage started to come under strain when she got a new full-time job.
“Monica began to change very much,” he said. “My oldest son saw her sometimes at a nightclub. She began to wear very flashy clothes, those ultra-short skirts or tiny tops, so her abdomen was completely exposed.” Finally rumors began to surface and after Jan found “amorous messages” from other men on her computer, he confronted her in a violent row that led to the police being called. “A friend told me that he had heard that Monica was actually a s*x-changed man. I could not believe it. My son heard similar rumors,” he said.
“I pushed her against the wall and said: Now I know the truth. Are you a man? She then announced that she was born as a boy and that she had been operated on. She was now a woman, and so she did not need to tell me about her past as a man.
My world collapsed. That evening we came to blows. The police came.” Jan, who is undergoing psychiatric treatment following the discovery, has started legal proceedings to have the marriage annulled but the Belgian courts have so far refused to allow him to turn her out of the family home.
“That person has deliberately deceived him for years, even scammed. Presumably she has also forged documents used here to get a residence permit. The children, who for years have lived with her, are devastated,” said his Liliane Verjauw, his lawyer.

Lagos To Experience 263 Days Of Rainfall In 2014

 Lagos State government, yesterday, declared that the state is expecting 263 days of rainfall this year and this may be accompanied with strong winds, lightning and thunderstorms.
It added that rainstorms would be common over the coastal cities areas with occasional flash flood and ocean surges that would greatly affect persons living along the flood plains but the magnitude of devastation shall depend on the activities of the people.
The state government last year announced rainfall of between 249 and 275 days with intermittent stoppages.
The state Commissioner for the Environment, Mr. Tunji Bello, stated this at the presentation of year 2014 annual seasonal rainfall prediction and socio-economic implication for the state as earlier predicted by Nigerian  Meteorological Agency, NIMET, held at Ministry’s office, Alausa, Ikeja.
“The Seasonal Rainfall Prediction, SRP, rainfall onset date for this year began in the first week of March in the southernmost part of the country and late June in the far northern parts.
“However, rainfall onset in Lagos Stare has since commenced from 14 March, 2014 in Ikeja, with a three days marginal error was given.
“The strong winds, lighting and thunderstorms which are regular phenomena during the onset and cessation of rainfall was also predicted to occur in stronger magnitude during this year’s raining period,” he stated.

Sam Allardyce confirmed what most Hammers fans already know in his pre-match press conference this week, stating that West Ham still aren’t quite out of the relegation woods just yet.
After three defeats on the trot, the latest being a 2-0 home defeat to Manchester United on Saturday, Allardyce said “We’ve put ourselves in a little bit of danger again, there’s no doubt about that,”
The 2-0 home defeat against a rejuvenated Manchester United side dented West Ham’s chances of climbing up the table and further adrift of the relegation zone, with the Hammers currently positioned 14th in the league on 31 points.
The Upton Park faithful will deem the Hammers next two fixtures against Hull City and Sunderland, who are all in similar positions in the league, as vital matches in order to steer our club away from any possibilities of being dragged back into a relegation dog fight.
Allardyce admits it is harder to find a reason (or excuse?) for the Hammers’ recent run of defeats than it was during their poor spell at the turn of the year. Now the 59-year-old, who kept his job during the difficult stage of the campaign, cannot pinpoint why his side are suffering a similar slump, beyond them lacking a clinical edge in attack and defence.
“We haven’t achieved the results that the performances warranted,” Allardyce said.
“That is the disappointment for me because we knew the bad times we had in December and January were really down to the limited players we had available.”
“At the moment we have just not got that instinctive, killer edge on the front line and because we are going all out for it we have left the back door open a couple of times and the opposition have taken full advantage of that.”

Bacary Sagna: Inter Milan interested in Arsenal defender

Inter Milan are interested in signing Arsenal defender Bacary Sagna when his contract expires in the summer.

But the Italians have not been in negotiations with Manchester United defender Patrice Evra, according to club president Erick Thohir.
"We're interested in Sagna because we need to balance the team," said Thohir.

"Right now we only have [Yuto] Nagatomo and Jonathan. If one of them gets injured you need somebody else to come in."

Sagna joined Arsenal in 2007 and has made 275 appearances for the London club but has yet to sign a contract extension.
Thohir added in an interview   "If Sagna decided to stay in England, we'd understand and in that case we might bring in a young player from our academy."
When asked if the club were interested in signing Chelsea forward Fernando Torres or Manchester City striker Edin Dzeko, Thohir said: "What I said is that we need someone up top.
"The media have written about those players and I mentioned that one of them would be good for Inter."
Thohir backed manager Walter Mazzarri despite the club being 31 points adrift of league leaders Juventus following a 2-1 home loss to Atalanta on Sunday.
But he said he will review the situation at the end of the season.
Thohir said: "Am I satisfied with Mazzarri's work? Yes, I don't have any problem with him or with the management. When it comes to the end of the season, we review everything."
